Aprilia has FINALLY updated the ageing SR 160 for 2021. And here are five things you want to know about it:
Look, Ma! New Clothes
The most significant and noticeable change is, of course, the design. Gone is the old, googly-eyed fascia, and in comes a new one, adding muscle to the styling. You also get a new all-LED headlamp and an aerodynamic cowl at the front, adding to the SR 160’s sporty looks. Additionally, there’s a new, seemingly more spacious split-type seat.
Complementing the new fascia is a reworked tail-end featuring a new ‘X’-shaped LED and a big, chunky yet sharp grab rail. Topping all this off are faux carbon fibre inserts on the front mudguard and around the instrument cluster.
A Splash Of Colours
There’s no dearth of colours on the 2021 SR 160. The standard variant is offered in five shades: grey, white, red, blue, and matte black.
And if you want a more posh feel, Aprilia also offers the SR 160 in Carbon and Race variants. The former comes in a stealthy-looking livery with faux carbon body graphics and pinstripe alloys, while the latter is wrapped in a MotoGP-inspired red-and-black livery with red alloys. It also gets handguards and a dual-tone seat.
Features? Aplenty!
Another monumental update comes to the SR 160’s features. It bids farewell to the previous semi-digital instrument cluster, switching to an SXR 160-borrowed fully digital LCD unit. The Bluetooth module is available as an accessory for Rs 2,000.
Along with this, the 2021 SR 160 also comes with a USB charging port, boot light, and single-channel ABS.
Same Old Underneath
Updates aside, the 2021 Aprilia SR 160 carries forward the same engine and underpinnings from its predecessor. It is powered by a three-valve, 160cc single-cylinder motor putting out 11PS and 11.6Nm, and it rolls on 14-inch tyres clamped by a 220mm disc/drum brake (F/R).
It continues to be sprung on a telescopic fork and a monoshock, with even the suspension tune left as is. Fuel tank capacity is still 6 litres.
Comes At A Premium
Aprilia has priced the 2021 SR 160 at Rs 1,17,494, Rs 10,533 more than before. The Race and Carbon variants cost Rs 1,26,636 and Rs 1,19,975, respectively (all prices ex-showroom Pune).
We believe the premium is a tad too steep, given the updates. However, Aprilia says the extra asking price is primarily due to the surge in manufacturing costs than anything else.
That said, one cannot deny that the costlier but more powerful Yamaha Aerox 155 and the more affordable but slightly less powerful TVS NTorq 125 Race XP justify their price tags better.
