The new year is set to kick off with one of the most anticipated launches — the Hyundai Creta EV. As automakers worldwide focus on expanding their electric vehicle portfolios, enthusiasts have long wondered if the iconic fuel-powered Creta would get an electric makeover. That question will finally be answered on January 17, when the Creta EV makes its debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. Having been spotted in camouflaged testing on multiple occasions, here’s everything we’ve uncovered about this exciting new model so far:
The Hyundai Creta EV is set to retain much of the design language of its ICE counterpart. Spy shots of test mules revealed a familiar front fascia, complete with a closed-off grille, connected LED DRLs and vertically stacked LED headlamps.
The profile looks nearly identical to the fuel-propelled Creta. It gets 17-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels. At the rear, the Creta EV is likely to sport a connected LED tail lamp setup, mirroring the design of its ICE sibling.
The Hyundai Creta EV’s cabin is expected to mirror its ICE counterpart, featuring a similar dashboard with a dual-integrated screen setup and a two-tone finish, possibly in a new colour. Expected updates include a redesigned steering wheel and a drive selector placed behind it, like the Ioniq 5. The centre console, seats, and materials will likely remain unchanged.
Key features could include a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital driver’s display, dual-zone climate control, a wireless phone charger, and a panoramic sunroof. EV-specific features like V2L functionality, V2V charging, and multi-level regenerative braking might also be added. There are chances that it might receive the bigger 12.3-inch touchscreen and display which we have recently seen on the Kia Syros.
Safety is expected to include six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a 360-degree camera, a blind view monitor, and level-2 ADAS with lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and autonomous emergency braking.
Hyundai has yet to reveal the powertrain details of the Creta EV, but it’s likely to offer multiple battery pack options paired with a single-motor setup.
the automobile community
The Creta EV is expected to deliver a claimed range exceeding 400 km and can also support DC fast charging for added convenience.
The Hyundai Creta EV is likely to have a starting price of around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
Upon launch, it will rival models like the Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. Additionally, it will position itself as a larger and more upscale alternative to the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400.
