The sub-4-metre SUV segment in India is to the car industry what a successful hot momos corner is to a hill station. Skoda has certainly taken note of this, as they have now embarked on tackling the inevitable crowd in Indian garages and parking lots. The Kylaq, as a debutant, stands firm like the class-topper the brand can rely upon. Since its launch, it has addressed all doubts with impressive answers, from its feature list to its proven turbo-petrol engine borrowed from its elder brother, the Kushaq — not to mention its shared MQB A0 IN platform.
That said, as 10,000 of you have already put your names in the Kylaq order books within 10 days of its opening, it's almost time for you to expect the car to arrive home. But even if you're still in a dilemma and have questions on your mind, we've got it all covered for you below.
As for the name, Skoda has very well referred to our Indian manuscripts to find out the Sanskrit word for ‘Crystal,’ and that’s how they christened this product – the Kylaq.
Look at the Kylaq at its face, and you’ll know it’s from the Skoda home right from its butterfly grille, which is typical of the Czech carmaker’s signature. Just that, the Skoda Kylaq has it blacked out without any kind of chrome doing the honours. The LED DRLs are kept at the top corners of the grille to form its horns – not sure if the butterfly turns a bull for that matter. The LED headlights remain a little low, sharing their place with the cornering fog lights. A silver skid plate does its job nicely to provide contrast to the black bumper.
Come to the side, the Kylaq looks like a tidy good boy with traditional door handles, roof rails, body-coloured ORVMs, and a thick black body cladding running onto the rather thinner wheel arches.

Let’s check out its back – uhh not in that way – the Kylaq keeps it simple with wrap-around taillights, a chrome-finished ‘SKODA’ lettering right at the centre of the tailgate, the shark-fin antenna, and a chunky silver skid plate down there.
You might think next…
We’ll tell you both from the outside and inside. The Skoda Kylaq measures as shown in the table below. It rides on one of the longest wheelbases in this segment, barring the Mahindra XUV 3XO alone, measuring 2566 mm which should translate enough to a generous legroom for passengers inside. The boot also opens up to a massive 446-litre of storage if you consider stuffing in luggage to the brim. The 189 mm ground clearance should be good enough for not-so-generous speed-brakers on the roads.

Moving inside, the Skoda Kylaq again proves to be the ideal kid by following the traditions of its bigger siblings – Kushaq and Slavia except that it had to do something of its own like a different dashboard trim and a dual-tone theme paired with chrome and silver accents. You might as well like the standing infotainment system, two-spoke steering wheel, and touch-capacitive climate control panel.
Lava Blue, Olive Gold, Candy White, Tornado Red, Deep Black, Brilliant Silver and Carbon Steel. Wanna know, how the colours look? You can take a look at that, here.
If you spend for the fully-loaded Skoda Kylaq, you do not miss out on features like a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, powered and ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger, an electric sunroof, auto-dimming IRVM, ambient lighting, cooled glovebox and connected car tech. Convenience and comfort aside, if you wonder…
We’ll leave its entire safety report, summarised in this article, for you to read but its 5-star rated BNCAP safety does talk for it. For that matter, it is equipped with safety essentials like 6 airbags (as standard), hill hold control, electronic stability programme (ESP), multi-collision brakes, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and brake disc wiping. Technically speaking, it is indeed India’s safest sub-4m SUV. You just would’ve wished it also brought ADAS but alas! That’s a miss.
You mean engine options, we see! Yes, the Skoda Kylaq offer you only one cuisine in that regard. A single 1-litre turbo petrol engine propels the car and it does churn out something like 115 PS and 178 Nm. You make use of that either with a 6-speed manual gearbox or the 6-speed torque converter automatic gear lever. Nothing more to read here!
So, you get four variants of the Skoda Kylaq to choose from. The base-spec Classic trim gets a manual only but you can also enjoy the automatic for the rests. Here you go with the variant-wise prices:

Ahem, Skoda would not want an answer to that for sure but if you’re the imposter amongst the Skoda fans, the Kylaq takes on its segment rivals like Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO and the newest member of the segment, the Kia Syros.
The Skoda Kylaq seems like a good package, isn’t it? Well if you want to dig deeper, we did put it against all its competitors for detailed comparisons. You can check them out below:
