The wraps are off the production-spec Toyota bZ4X EV, which looks eerily similar to the concept that debuted at Auto Shanghai 2021. The all-electric crossover is Toyota’s first electric vehicle that has been built from scratch on a dedicated EV platform. So without further ado, here are the top five things you need to know about this EV.
What Is It?
The b4ZX is Toyota’s first EV under the ‘bZ’ series, which will spawn seven more vehicles. It’s based on Toyota’s dedicated e-TNGA platform that has been built from the ground up. The all-electric crossover can be had with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and that also brings us to the next point.
What Powers It?
Toyota will offer two variants of the b4ZX: 204PS front-wheel drive (single motor) and 217PS all-wheel drive (dual motor). Both variants draw power from a 71.4kWh battery pack and support charging speeds up to 150kW using a DC fast charger. Toyota says the FWD can go around 500km on a single charge, while the AWD is expected to return about 460km. Both figures are based on the Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Cycles (WLTC).
Customers can opt for a solar roof and charge the vehicle using a feeder. The electricity can also be used to power your home should there be an outage.
How Does It Look?
Save for some minor styling changes (the alloy wheels, for example), the production-spec EV looks similar to the concept. So, it’s a stylish-looking vehicle with plenty of sharp creases and modern design elements. The sleek LED headlamps and connected LED tail lamps add plenty of character to the design. Luxurious Interior?
The interior looks minimalistic yet modern. The use of different colours and textures appear to have improved the cabin ambience, but we can’t comment on its quality just yet. This author is a fan of the yoke-style steering wheel and the high-set digital driver’s display that seems to be straight out of a fighter jet. Then there’s the large infotainment system that relies on a new user interface, which shows various information, including your powertrain details.
India Launch On Cards?
Toyota is yet to give us a date, but we reckon it’s still some time away. The specifications of this EV put it in contention with the Volkswagen ID.4, Skoda Enyaq, Hyundai iONIQ5, and Kia EV6.
