Bengaluru-based Simple Energy celebrated the country's 75th Independence day in style by unveiling its flagship electric scooter, the Simple One. Couldn’t catch the unveiling? Fret not, here are five key things you need to know about the new made-in-India e-scooter.
Meaty Powertrain With Mind-boggling Range
The Simple One looks fast, but does it go fast? Well, yes, or so Simple Energy claims. The Bengaluru-based EV maker has equipped the One with a 4.8kW motor that has a peak power rating of 8.5kW and puts out a best-in-class 72Nm. This helps it sprint from 0 to 40kmph in mere 2.95 seconds, making it the quickest electric scooter to go on sale in India, at least on paper. And if you’re wondering, it has a claimed top speed of 105kmph.
The Simple One gets a combination of a fixed battery and a 7kg removable battery pack, with a total capacity of 4.8kWh. The expected range, you ask? A massive 236km in ideal conditions and 203km in city conditions, making it the most efficient scooter in our country, again on paper. The fixed battery pack takes just 2.75 hours to charge from 0 to 80 percent, while the portable pack takes 75 minutes for the same.
Features, Features And More Features
Modern electric scooters usually come packed with features and the Simple One is no different. Right from all-LED illumination and a 7-inch touchscreen TFT display to smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth and a remote key, the Simple One gets it all. Apart from the basics, the instrument cluster also gets OTA updates, geo-fencing, a tyre pressure monitoring system, vehicle tracking and can even store virtual copies of your documents.
In addition, the scooter comes with practical touches like swappable batteries, fast charging and a massive 30-litre underseat storage space.
Impressive Underpinnings
The Simple One gets a tubular underbone chassis sprung on a telescopic fork up front and a monoshock at the rear. It rides on 12-inch alloys shod with 90/90-12 tyres. Simple Energy will also offer the scooter with a beefier combination of 100/80-12 and 110/80-12 front and rear tyres too. There’s plenty of stopping power too, thanks to a 200mm disc up front and a 190mm disc at the rear, both kept in sync by CBS. Besides, it also gets regenerative braking to eke out some extra range.
Simple Energy has also got the basics right as the One tips the scale at 110kg, gets a low 775mm seat, and has a ground clearance of 160mm. All this should make it an easy-to-ride scooter.
Charismatic Looks
We already knew the Simple One would be a handsome scooter, thanks to the teasers and it has only gotten better in the flesh. The Simple One shouts edgy from head to toe. Up front, you get a sharp LED headlight and sleek indicators, topped off by LED DRLs. And the design comes to a close with a unique premium-looking tail section. The attention to detail like the striking mirrors and pillion grab handle also adds to the sporty design. However, the fit and finish wasn’t quite top notch in the pre-production model, though we hope the production models are built better.
Time To Speak Money
The bookings of the Simple One have commenced as we speak, for a patriotic token amount of Rs 1,947, while its retail price has been set at Rs 1,09,999 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru, including FAME-II subsidies). At this price, the Simple One undercuts its arch rivals, the Ola S1 Pro and the Ather 450X by Rs 20,000 and Rs 32,500, respectively, making it an excellent option to consider.
And with Simple planning to extend operations to 75 cities in the next seven months or so, along with 300+ charging stations spread across 13 states, it’s only getting better for you if you get ‘One’ (pun intended).
