Tata Motors is all set to unveil the features and technical specifications of its newest entry-level SUV, the Punch, tomorrow. Also, its pre-launch bookings are set to commence on the same day, though unofficial bookings are already underway.
Here are a few things you can expect from Tata’s upcoming SUV:
SUV Quotient
Looking at the Punch, you will notice the SUV has taken a lot of design inspiration from its elder SUV siblings, the Nexon and the Harrier. Starting up front, the split-projector headlamps with the DRLs connected by the grille have been lifted from the Harrier, while the tri-arrow mesh on the air intakes are reminiscent of the Nexon. It will also feature an upstanced design with all-around body cladding and will sit on four-spoke dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels.
For readers interested in numbers, the SUV will be 3,840mm long, 1,800mm wide, 1,635mm tall with a 2,450mm wheelbase.
Well Loaded Cabin
At first sight, the Punch’s cabin has taken the majority of its design elements from its concept, the HBX. The production-spec model will come in a dual-tone black-and-white dashboard, with blue accents around the AC vents. It will feature a 7-inch floating Harman touchscreen infotainment system, a semi-digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, and a flat-bottom steering wheel, all of which are a straight lift from its hatchback sibling, the Altroz.
Other features will include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Harman audio system, cruise control, auto headlamps and wipers, and keyless entry with push-button start/stop. Safety will be taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors with a camera.
Powertrain
The Tata Punch will be powered by a sole 1.2-litre petrol engine (from the Altroz), which will develop 86PS of push and 113Nm of twist. It can be specced with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. However, a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and an all-electric powertrain could be introduced later.
Variants
Tata will likely offer the Punch in four trims: Pure, Adventure, Accomplished, and Creative. The SUV will come in six body shades: White, Grey, Stonehenge, Orange, Blue, and Urban Bronze. The dual-tone option will include a black or white coloured roof, and can be specced with all six body shades. The dual-tone colour option is likely to be an exclusive for the top-spec Creative.
Prices and Competitors
Expect the Tata Punch to be priced from Rs 5.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) onwards. The micro SUV will compete against the Mahindra KUV100 NXT and Maruti Suzuki Ignis.
