Along with its radical design, the Yamaha EMF packs quite some nifty features

A few days ago, Yamaha launched the EMF electric scooter as its second EV offering, besides the EC-05, in Taiwan. Unlike a lot of boring looking electric scooters, the EMF is a bit different, not only in terms of looks but features as well. Here are its top five highlights.

Radical Design

While most electric scooters are usually associated with a rather conservative design approach, the Yamaha EMF’s bodywork speaks a completely contrasting story. Its structure is quite taut and futuristic. The vertically stacked apron-mounted LED projector lights look almost like something out of a Transformers movie. That said, fans of the floorboard acreage may be a bit disappointed, since the central spine takes up most of the space.

Power & Range

Yamaha has equipped the EMF with a liquid-cooled permanent magnet motor developing 7.6kW and 26Nm. It’s paired to twin swappable battery units (from Gogoro) that comprise 21kg of the total 114kg weight. Yamaha Taiwan is yet to reveal the range and charging time details.

Backing up its futuristic design is the EMF’s feature list. Apart from LED illumination, it offers a fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth compatibility, navigation, last parked location and a NFC-enabled smart key.

Decent Underpinnings

The Yamaha EMF is built on a steel tube frame suspended on a conventional telescopic fork and twin rear springs. Its braking hardware includes a front and rear disc with a combined braking system. The EMF rides on 10-inch aluminium alloys wrapped in a 100-section front and 130-section rear tyre.

Price & Availability

In Taiwan, the Yamaha EMF retails at TWD 99,800 (approximately Rs 2.68 lakh) until March 31, which makes it quite pricey in the Indian context. But that’s not our concern, as the e-scooter won’t be heading to India anytime soon. Moreover, Yamaha will also offer a complimentary NFT EMF model to the first 200 buyers.
