Classic Legends has resurrected Yezdi, and the iconic bikemaker has made a stunning entry with not one but three new bike launches. The Yezdi Adventure is the top-of-the-line terrain tamer whereas the Yezdi Scrambler is the middle child. The most affordable bike in its lineup is the Yezdi Roadster, a road-biased bike meant to take on the highways. Here’s everything you need to know about the Roadster:
An affordable alternative to the Meteor 350:
The Yezdi Roadster starts from Rs 1,98,142 for the Roadster Dark - Smoke Grey colour variant under the Roadster Dark series. That makes it Rs 3,478 less expensive than the most affordable variant of its arch rival, the Royal Enfield Meteor 350. The Steel Blue and Hunter Green colour options under the Roadster Dark range cost Rs 2,02,142, whereas the more expensive Gallant Grey and Sin Silver colour variants under the Roadster Chrome series will set you back by Rs 2,06,142.
Bookings and test rides of the Roadster have commenced, and deliveries will start from day one itself. Yezdi will be sold alongside Jawas, and available pan-India. If you’re looking for other alternatives in the same price bracket, you can take a look at the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Honda H’Ness CB350, and the Jawa Forty Two 2.1.
Feature-loaded machine comes in two flavours:
The Yezdi Roadster comes with a full-LED headlight and tail lamp. It also gets a full-LCD instrument cluster that’s capable of showing real time mileage, remaining range, gear position, along with other info such as the speed, rpm, fuel level, clock, tripmeter readings and tell-tale lights. The bike also gets a cushioned backrest as standard across both the variants.
The Roadster Dark range comes with a blacked out theme, and a wide handlebar with bar-end mirrors. It also gets a short flyscreen and gaitered forks for a sporty appeal. On the other hand, the Roadster Chrome is all about bling, thanks to the metal finish on the powertrain, chromed-out exhausts, and a large windscreen, which should keep fatigue at bay while riding on the highway over extended periods of time.
Packs a modern powertrain:
The Yezdi Roadster employs a 334cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine but with fins for a retro flair. This is the same heart as the Jawa Perak, tuned differently to suit the Roadster’s character. In this motorcycle, the motor makes 29.7PS at 7300rpm and 29Nm at 6500rpm. In comparison, the Perak makes 30.64PS and 32.74Nm. Like the Perak, this one too gets a 6-speed transmission.
Potent underpinnings:
The Yezdi Roadster is built on a double cradle frame linked to a telescopic front fork with 135mm wheel travel and twin gas-filled emulsion rear shock absorbers with 100mm wheel travel. Braking is via a 320mm front disc with axial caliper, and a 240mm rear unit, along with a dual-channel ABS with Road (normal mode with dual-channel ABS), Rain (for safe braking on wet roads) and Off-road modes (rear unit is turned off).
Being a road-biased bike, this one gets stylish alloy wheels measuring 18 inches up front and 17 inches at the rear, shod with road-biased tubeless tyres. At 175mm, the ground clearance is good enough for bad roads too. The motorcycle tips the scales at 184kg kerb, and comes with a fairly accessible 790mm seat. At 12.5 litres, the fuel tank capacity could’ve been better for superior mile-munching capabilities.
No-nonsense design:
The Yezdi Roadster’s styling features just about enough elements to ensure it’s more of a street-oriented roadster than a swanky cruiser. That said, the Chrome variant does look the part of a cruiser thanks to its shiny bits and tall windshield. The full-length front fender should ensure practicality whereas the one at the rear is chopped. It also gets a classic-style fuel tank with padding on the sides that should help in gripping the tank with your knees. Overall, the styling is functional yet aesthetically pleasing.
