Since the conception of the Maruti Suzuki Swift in the year 2005, it surely lived up to its name and beyond. However, with more manufacturers coming to Indian shores, the Maruti Suzuki Swift had a little but of a hard time keeping up to pace and the Swift, sadly, felt dated. With the launch of the New Swift just around the corner, we at zigwheels just thought of penning down about the engines being used in this mean machine.

Truly, the life lies in the heart. And one car won hearts and has had a huge fan following since the start of the millennium was none other than the Maruti Suzuki Swift. Responsive in any power band, it has surely become every boy’s dream. Adding to this, the petrol mill will come same 1.2 liter KB series with a Variable Valve Timing (VVT) engine churning out 87 PS of power at 6000 rpm and an impressive 114 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. With the VVT in all engines of the Swift, it will surely be a good city car as well as a highway star.

The Diesel will come with the same DDIS engine as that in its predecessor, but, with a variable geometry turbo currently running the SX4 diesel. The 1.3 liter powerplant will churn out 75 PS of power at 4000 rpm and a huge 190 Nm of torque at 2000 rpm. The Dual Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) would give it the precise firing and responsive valve operation for a quicker off the block capability.

As for the efficiency figures, ARAI has given the petrol mill 18.6 kilometers to a liter while the diesel engine gives an overall of 22.9 kilometers to a liter.
