Ever wondered why there are parallel horizontal lines running across the rear window of a car? Those lines are present to heat the rear window which helps to remove mist from the window. Read on to know how it works

Those brown lines on the back of the rear window are an array of heating elements attached in thin strips to the glass. An electric current is passed through the grid to heat the rear window and remove mist, it can also melt light snow that accumulates on the back window when a car stops at traffic lights. If you touch the lines when the defogger is on chances are that you will not feel any heat. The temperature of the heating element is enough to give you a clear view out of the back window. There is a switch on the dashboard which can turn the rear defogger on and off.
