Forza Horizon 3 launch

Xbox India, the wholly owned gaming subsidiary of Microsoft, on Sunday, September 25th, invited the media and select Indian gamers for an exclusive first look at the hotly anticipated Forza Horizon 3 upcoming video game. The event, co-hosted by Lamborghini, also saw members from Throttle 97, one of India’s biggest supercar clubs, duking it out on the virtual playground with avid gamers.

Developed by Playground Games and published by Microsoft Studios, Forza Horizon 3 is the third Forza Horizon and ninth instalment in the Forza series of racing video games. Based in Australia, Horizon 3’s open-world map is reportedly twice as big as its previous instalment. It also boasts a whopping 350 cars at launch – the most ever for a Horizon game -- with more set to follow in subsequent DLCs. The game features cross-platform play – meaning that players on Xbox Ones and PCs can race against each other -- as it is a part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program. Taking pride of place on the cover of the game are the Lamborghini Centenario and the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor truck.

At the event, held at the swanky Taj Lands End hotel at Bandra West, Mumbai, visitors were invited to try out the game on a slew of high-end gaming laptops from the Asus Republic of Gamers line-up. While it is possible to play Forza Horizon 3 using just the WASD keys on a computer keyboard, attendees experienced the game on the Xbox One wired game controller. For the full experience, though, one can go the full hog and splurge on a racing wheel and pedal combo from the likes of Fanatec or Thrustmaster.

The event was also supported by LG, who took the opportunity to show off their spanking new 4K and OLED TVs hooked up to the game. While 4K is still in a nascent stage, and games currently require a very high-end PC setup to run smoothly in this ultra-high resolution, experiencing the breathtaking beauty of the Australian outback on a massive screen was something that enthralled the visitors.

Forza Horizon 3 for PC and Xbox One comes out on September 27 worldwide. Prices for India remains TBA, although Amazon India has preorders open for the Xbox platform with prices set at Rs 3,999. With all the rave reviews the game has been getting the world over, we suggest you hurry up and get in line if you want in on a piece of the vehicular mayhem of what has rapidly emerged to be one of the best racing game titles of this generation.
