150cc commuter motorcycle of the Year - Yamaha SZ-X

Yamaha pulled a fast one with the SZ-X but the motorcycle made it to the winner’s spot even more swiftly thanks to its fashionable looks, ultra-refined engine and exceptional feel-good-factor that had all the jury members impressed. Slipped into the emerging power-commuter segment in the month of August 2010, the Yamaha SZ-X offers best of everything but more importantly it introduces your Average Joe commuter to the simple joy of motorcycling without compelling him to part with a huge sum of money.

While muscling it out in their native segment, the two bikes were extremely well-matched and as a result there was a tie between the SZ-X and the Discover 150 DTSi – with four out of the eight jurors favouring either bikes. The only real way to solve this situation was to promote both bikes to the final round, and let them slog it out again. It was then that the jury decided to choose one of the two as the winner based on the final round of scoring. The Yamaha SZ-X puts focus on the ‘fun’ in functionality - a factor that worked in its favour to trump its rival the Bajaj Discover 150 for the award of 150cc Commuter Motorcycle of the Year.
