The new-gen Maruti Dzire continues to offer an optional factory-fitted CNG kit in its powertrain, right from launch. With its segment-first offerings, it has surely brought a nightmare for its rivals, including the Hyundai Aura. But whether it poses the same challenge to the Aura with the greener fuel option will be interesting to watch. Since the Hyundai sedan also comes with a factory-fitted CNG kit, it would be fair to compare them both.
In this article, we have provided a detailed comparison of what each car offers in their respective CNG-equipped variants.
Both the subcompact sedans are offered in four variants. Do note that the CNG option is excluded from the top-spec trims in both cars. The Maruti Dzire gets it for the mid-spec Vxi and Zxi trims, whereas the Hyundai Aura gets it for its E, S and SX trims.

Rs 7.49 lakh to Rs 9.05 lakh |
If you're considering the CNG option, the Hyundai Aura turns out to be the more affordable choice, since it offers CNG right from its base variant. Even the higher-spec CNG trim of the Aura undercuts the Dzire by Rs 79,000, making it a more cost-effective option. But for that savings, does the Aura miss out on a lot? We’ll see that next.

The new Maruti Dzire is clearly the bigger subcompact sedan, but the major size difference is only in terms of width. It's 55 mm wider than the Aura, which should result in more cabin space, especially at the rear, which gives the Dzire an edge over the Aura. It is also 5 mm taller, but that is not much of a difference. The Aura on the otherhand gets dual-cylinders for CNG which should result in a greater boot space compared to the Dzire.
Let’s see what are the feature differences between the two, below.

As shown in the table above, there are some key differences in features between the two sedans. For the CNG trims, the Dzire holds an advantage with LED headlights, wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, additional speakers, automatic climate control and connected car technology. However, it falls short to the Aura in having ambient lighting and a larger infotainment display.
The new Dzire does bring segment-first additions like a sunroof and a 360-degree camera, along with features like projector headlights, a 9-inch touchscreen and an ARKAMYS-tuned sound system. However, these features are not available in the CNG-specific variants.

The parameters in this table apply specifically to the CNG fuel type. While the Aura delivers similar output with both petrol and CNG, the Dzire generates slightly more power and torque when run in petrol.
The new Dzire inherits the Swift’s new Z-series 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, which produces more power and torque than the Aura’s 4-cylinder petrol engine, in both CNG and petrol modes. As for transmission, both CNG sedans get a 5-speed manual gearbox.
In conclusion, both sub-compact sedans offer impressive features in their CNG variants. The Dzire, with its generational update, justifiably brings a few additional features and better engine output, while the Aura stands out for its affordability if you're willing to compromise on those extras. Moreover, if budget is your concern, you can have the eco-friendly option with the base-spec model in Aura, hence saving a lot. Ultimately, the choice depends on your individual preferences and needs.
So, we’d love to hear your thoughts! Let us know in the comments below, which of the two sub-compact sedans in CNG would be your pick!
