The Altroz CNG’s highlight is its twin small CNG tanks that replace a single large tank to free up boot space

  • Tata Altroz CNG market launch on April 19.
  • Will get twin cylinder technology, freeing up boot space.
  • It should get the 1.2-litre engine developing 73.4PS and 95Nm in CNG mode.
  • Could get new features like 10.25-inch infotainment, 7-inch digital driver’s display and a sunroof.
  • Expected to command a premium of Rs 1 lakh over petrol-only model.

Tata Motors is on a launch spree and is giving its crucial models updates that will keep them relevant in the market. First, we got the 2023 Harrier and Safari with new features, followed by the Dark Edition of the Nexon EV Max. Coming up next from the Indian marque is the Tata Altroz CNG, which is all set to be launched on April 19.

The Altroz might not be the first model to get CNG in its segment. But it does have an interesting tech up its sleeve. Instead of making do with a single large CNG tank in the boot, the Indian marque will plonk two small tanks, which significantly opens up cargo volume. The powertrain, which is a 1.2-litre engine, develops 73.4PS and 95Nm in CNG mode, and should be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Apart from the CNG powertrain, Tata could also take this opportunity to add new features in the Altroz. So, we expect the Indian marque to give it the new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7-inch digital driver’s display and a sunroof in the premium hatchback. The rest of the features list should be more or less similar to the current one.

Like Tata’s other CNG offerings, we expect the Altroz CNG to be offered across almost the entire variant range. We expect it to command a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the standard petrol-powered model, which costs from Rs 6.45 lakh (ex-showroom). The Altroz CNG will lock horns with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG and Toyota Glanza CNG.
