Mini has given us our first look at the all-new concept electric crossover, the Concept Aceman. It’s the crossover counterpart to the Cooper SE, slotting between the hatchback and Countryman.
Here are five things you need to know about the new concept crossover:
The Mini Aceman concept is designed with the ‘Charismatic Simplicity’ design language that’s minimalist and, in the carmaker’s words, “pared-back”. The Aceman concept has chunky proportions and a grille-less nose.
At the rear, it bears a new twist to the Union Jack LED taillights that flank a neat hatchback tailgate. And don’t forget the cool Union Jack roof rack. Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design, says, “The design language of the Mini Concept Aceman heralds the beginning of a new design era for Mini.”
Mini has gone a step further with the ‘Charismatic Simplicity’ design language when it comes to the Aceman’s interior design. The concept car has a single-piece dashboard with a circular OLED screen at the centre. Its entire cabin is completely free of leather and chrome – even the steering wheel is lined with green velour instead of leather.
The Mini Aceman has the world’s first circular infotainment screen, powered by the Android-based Mini Operating System.
The Mini OS also controls the lighting on the dashboard and door trims and that offers a unique new ambient lighting experience. The Aceman offers ‘Pop-up’, ‘Vivid’ and ‘Personal’ modes.
We expect to know more about the Mini Aceman concept’s powertrain and capabilities, and about the production-spec version at the car’s global unveiling scheduled for August 23 at gamescom in France.

The Mini Aceman concept is the crossover counterpart to the Mini electric hatchback. Given that the Cooper SE already exists in India, it’s likely that the production-spec Aceman will be offered in the subcontinent as well, possibly by 2024. It’ll rival the Volvo XC40 Recharge, Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
