The Volkswagen Bus, which some of you readers might have even travelled in back in the day, has been resurrected as the all-electric ID.Buzz. And clearly, childhood memories are now flowing around in our heads as Volkswagen has managed to stir some magic with its quirky design and colour schemes, helping it to stand out.
So, without further ado, let’s get this thing cracking. Here are 5 things you need to know about the ID.Buzz:
First, The Basics
The Volkswagen ID.Buzz will initially be offered in two versions: the ID.Buzz and ID.Buzz Cargo (for fleet purposes). The former is a 5-seater, and I know what you might think: “the Volkswagen Bus will be able to carry more than 5 people, and this one is restricted.”
Well, to all those of you wanting to carry your folks and reminisce your older memories, a 7-seater version with a longer wheelbase will follow suit in 2023.
It Looks Awesome!
Recreating an iconic vehicle is not easy as expectations are sky high, but Volkswagen has gone out of the park with the ID.Buzz’s design. Yes, it's a van with upright proportions, but the ID.Buzz looks so desirable in these dual-tone colour schemes. Also, modern day Volkswagen elements such as the matrix LED headlights and connected LED tail lamps give it a modern outlook. And the lower dam gives the ID.Buzz a smiling face, which just adds to the emotion factor.
A Funky Interior
The basic layout of the ID.Buzz’s interior is similar to VW’s other ID cars like the ID.3 and ID.4. So, it gets a very minimalistic layout with a large touchscreen in the central console and a digital driver's display. But the magic is in the way Volkswagen has styled the rest of the cabin, which looks pretty darn impressive.
Once again, Volkswagen has played around with colours, and you get colour-coordinated interiors that match with the exterior. Small touches like the inscription of the ID.Buzz’s silhouette on the dash adds to the emotion factor.
Electric Power
The ID tag at the front of the Buzz means this one is pure electric. At present, there is just one single powertrain option: a 204PS rear-wheel drive electric motor paired with a 77kWh battery pack. VW is yet to shed light on how many kms the ID.Buzz can do on a single charge, but the ID.4 SUV with the same specs is capable of doing up to 520km.
Naturally, the ID.Buzz gets fast charging capabilities, but in case of a power outage, it can also power up your home thanks to the vehicle-to-home functionality.
Is It Coming To India?
Sadly, nope, at least not in the near future. But considering that a handful of people still have the previous Volkswagen Bus as a collector’s item, we hope Volkswagen brings the ID.Buzz, at least as a limited import. Fingers crossed.
