The Punch EV, expected to launch later this year, will slot bang in between the Tigor EV and Nexon EV

  • Tata Punch EV spotted testing for the first time.
  • Gets rear disc brakes, gear selector and electronic parking brake from Nexon EV Max.
  • Likely to be offered in two variants: Standard and Long Range.
  • Expected to go on sale later this year.

Back in 2022, Tata Motors had already confirmed that the all-electric Punch EV is in the works and it’s expected to launch sometime in 2023. Fast forward to current times and it has been snapped for the first time. And based on these spy shots, there are a couple of things that are different from the ICE model.

Let’s start with the exterior. The overall design of the SUV is similar to that of the standard car. But a closer look at the rear wheels reveals the presence of disc brakes, a similar upgrade Tata made when it launched the Nexon EV Max long range variant. And if you think this is the only bit from Max, it isn’t.

An electronic parking brake with auto hold switches is also another feature from the Nexon EV Max. As is the gear selector with the integrated display. These small touches could probably hint that the Punch could be offered with a long range variant with these features bespoke to it, just like the Nexon EV Max.

Speaking of features, the Punch should carry forward most of the kit offered in the current model, including automatic climate control, cruise control, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and keyless entry with push button start. While the test mule featured the 7-inch infotainment, we suspect the final model to get the newer 10.25-inch unit.
