MG Motor India had an impressive pavilion decked up with exciting models, one of which was the S5 EV. This electric SUV, known as the ES5 in international markets, was earlier unveiled at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, with a European and Chinese market debut scheduled for mid-2025. While the carmaker has not announced any plans for the launch of this car, it is likely to replace the ZS EV as its generational update sometime later. Let’s take a detailed look at this new MG EV.
The MG S5 features a bold and contemporary front with a split-type lighting setup. The sleek LED daytime running lights are positioned above the main headlights. Below the headlights, a split-type air intake grille enhances the car's aerodynamic appeal while contributing to a sporty yet refined front profile.
From the side, the S5 showcases a clean and flowing shoulder line that extends seamlessly from the headlights to the rear. The profile is complemented by conventional door handles, black-finished exterior rearview mirror shells, and silver roof rails.
At the rear, the MG S5 has its LED tail light spanning the width of the vehicle. The unique graphic design of the rear lamps complements the front lighting setup.
The MG S5 measures as follows:
Length |
4476 mm |
Width |
1849 mm |
Height |
1621 mm |
Wheelbase |
2730 mm |
The cabin features a plush beige theme. A panoramic sunroof spans across the roof allowing plenty of light inside. The dashboard is neatly designed, with a large floating display serving as the centerpiece. The center console, which includes a front center armrest, is kept minimalistic and incorporates practical storage spaces and cupholders.
In terms of features, the S5 is expected to come equipped with a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and heated and ventilated leather seats.
For safety, it could offer all essential features, including multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, TPMS, and a 360-degree camera.
The MG S5, also referred to as the MG ES5 in international markets, has been announced with three battery pack options, offering a claimed range of up to 525 km. It features a rear-wheel-drive system and delivers the following performance output with the larger battery pack:
Battery Pack |
62 kWh |
Power |
170 PS |
Torque |
250 Nm |
Claimed Range (CLTC) |
Up to 525 km |
Acceleration (0-100 kmph) |
8 seconds |
Drivetrain |
Rear-wheel-drive |
While MG has not disclosed plans to launch the S5 in India, it is expected to be positioned competitively within the electric SUV segment, probably replacing the existing ZS EV as its generational update. In terms of competition, the MG S5 might renew the ZS EV’s rivalries being the more premium alternative to Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, the upcoming e Vitara as well and the Urban Cruiser.
