2024 was quite a good year in terms of new launches and updates. But along the way there were a few disappointments. In this article we will be going over some of the disappointments we at ZigWheels saw this year.
Aprilia India this year brought their higher capacity offerings to the market. It included everything from the Aprilia RSV4 Factory, Aprilia RS660, Tuareg 660, and Tuono 660.
Now, the launch of all these big bikes was something we were looking forward to. But the prices they were launched at were absolutely insane! At those rates you could have easily gone for even more powerful bikes with more to offer.
Just to put things in perspective, the RS660 is priced at Rs 17,74,000 (ex-showroom), while its competitors like the Triumph Daytona 660 start from Rs 9,72,450 (ex-showroom). The pricing of the other bikes are equally crazy.
KTM India launched their big bikes this year, and it included the 1390 Super Duke R, 1290 Super Adventure S, the 890 Duke R and the 890 Adventure R. Now we are really glad KTM brought these big bikes to India. But the issue once again is the pricing.
The KTM 890 Duke R and the 890 Adventure R are priced at Rs 14,50,000 and Rs 15,80,000 (both ex-showroom). The pricing is a bit too high and leaves KTM fans who are looking for an upgrade from the 390 Duke or RC 390 with very little options. That said, the 1390 Super Duke R and the 1290 Super Adventure S comes at much more reasonable prices.
The Honda Activa electric has been one scooter that we have been waiting for, for many years. The launch had been postponed multiple times in the past. But we were sure the scooters would be coming to India in 2024.
At the unveiling, we were disappointed to learn that the Honda Activa e and Honda QC1 won’t be coming to India in 2024. The e-scooters will be launched only in 2025, and that too in select cities.
This year we were expecting Yamaha to launch their higher capacity offerings, including the Yamaha MT-07, Yamaha MT-09 and the Yamaha R7. The brand also invited us to Japan to ride the new 2024 MT-09.
We really liked the MT-09 and the new automatic transmission made the experience all the more memorable. But the MT-09 and the others didn’t come to India by the end of 2024 like we were expecting. So far we haven’t heard anything from Yamaha about this, so the bikes might most likely be coming to the country next year.
