The all-electric BMW iX1 is in its final stages of winter testing in Arjeplog, Sweden. If you aren’t familiar with winter testing, it’s that particular phase where manufacturers tend to fine tune the vehicles due to extreme weather conditions. This includes the vehicle’s handling, the condition of its battery pack, and even minute things, like the state of a particular part.
One interesting fact BMW has found from this test is the iX1’s WLTP-claimed range, which is claimed to be between 413km and 438km. BMW clearly says this figure has been achieved from the vehicle’s current stage, but not much differences are expected when the wraps come off.
Specifications of the electric motor and battery wraps are still yet to be determined. But BMW has confirmed that the electric SUV will get its fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology with dual motors. The carmaker claims the battery pack will get heating technology, allowing for faster charging times and better range in cold temperatures.
The latest iteration of the X1 will not be limited to an electric-only model. There will be internal combustion as well as plug-in hybrid variants on the shelves. All the variants will be based on the same platform, and as a result, will be made from the same assembly line. And naturally, it’s safe to assume that the X1 will have good dynamics as expected from a BMW.
The BMW iX1 will break cover once the ICE-powered variants are revealed in Autumn 2022, which basically means anytime between August to November. And it’s safe to expect both the ICE-powered and electric variants to come to India, considering the carmaker’s aggressive plans of three EVs back to back on our shores.
