Ola has launched two new scooters in their lineup
It includes 2 new low-speed scooters and 2 commuter scooters
Both get Ola’s new swappable batteries
Ola Electric has launched two new e-scooters in India, and it includes the Ola S1 Z range and the Ola Gig range. What makes these scooters stand out is the usage of Ola’s new swappable battery setup, which, in theory, would reduce range anxiety.
Here’s a breakdown of the prices:
Model |
Prices (ex-showroom) |
Ola S1 Z |
Rs 59,999 |
Ola S1 Z+ |
Rs 64,999 |
Ola Gig |
Rs 39,999 |
Ola Gig+ |
Rs 49,999 |
The Ola S1 Z and the Ola S1 Z+ are commuter scooter offerings from Ola Electric. Both the scooters feature a sharp styling and design, which is a departure from the curvy design used on the Ola S1 lineup. The Ola S1 Z+ has a few design and styling differences compared to the S1 Z, such as the addition of a luggage rack at the rear and the front.
Both variants are powered by a 1.5kWh swappable battery setup, and customers have the option to upgrade to a dual 1.5kWh setup. The scooter offers a claimed range of 75km with the 1.5kWh setup and 146km on the dual 1.5kWh setup. Both get a 3kW motor which offers a claimed top speed of 70kmph. Both e-scooters roll on 14-inch wheels on both ends with drum brakes.
The Ola Gig and Ola Gig+ are B2B scooters which will be used to handle last mile deliveries. The Ola Gig gets a 1.5kWh battery pack and offers a claimed range of 112km. The e-scooter is powered by a 250W motor and has a claimed top speed of 25km. It is offered in a single 1.5kWh and features a apronless front end.
The Ola Gig+ offers customers the option to upgrade to a dual 1.5kWh battery pack. It has a claimed range of 75km with the single battery and 146km claimed range with the dual battery pack. It is powered by a 3kW motor and has a claimed top speed of 70kmph.
The launch of the Ola S1 Z and the Ola S1 Z+ is an interesting addition to their commuter lineup. The usage of the swappable battery setup is a welcome addition and will go a long way in reducing range anxiety.
That said, Ola Electric has to set up the needed swap station ecosystem to make this work. Currently they have a hypercharging network, but it is not as widespread. Setting up swap stations at these hypercharging stations makes more sense than working on setting up new swap stations from scratch.
The launch of the Ola Gig range will offer businesses a new alternative for last mile delivery solutions. It will also allow Ola to compete with rivals like Kinetic Green who have already established themselves in the B2B EV segment with the Kinetic Green e-Luna.
