Three types of DiSus systems have been developed for models with different suspension setups

  • BYD DiSus system is an advanced suspension and body control suite.

  • Will be offered on new and existing models sold overseas.

  • India-spec Atto 3 e-SUV and E6 EV will not get these updates.

  • DiSus will be available as an over-the-air (OTA) update on existing EVs with hardware compatibility.

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker BYD has introduced a new technology called the DiSus Intelligent Body Control System, or DiSus. It’s a suspension and body control software developed exclusively for EVs that promises to improve the driving experience of BYD’s electric cars.

The DiSus system will be introduced as an over-the-air (OTA) software update for the following existing models that are sold overseas and have hardware compatibility:

  • BYD Yangwang U8

  • BYD Denza N7

  • BYD Tang

  • BYD Han

BYD DiSus system

The DiSus system is a body-control system that electronically adjusts the suspension as you drive, helping the vehicle handle with agility during high-speed cornering, full-whip acceleration and emergency braking. It’s also helpful for preventing loss of control over snow, mud and wet roads.

BYD has introduced three DiSus systems:

  • DiSus-C: Intelligent damping control system for EVs with adjustable dampers.

  • DiSus-A: Intelligent air body control system that controls the height and damping of air suspensions.

  • DiSus-P: Intelligent Hydraulic body control system is the most advanced system that can control multiple aspects of the vehicle including power to all four wheels.

What can the DiSus system do?

The DiSus system has another, even more advanced version – the DiSus-X – that pushes the capabilities of the suspension control system. It can monitor the road ahead and adjust the suspension in real-time accordingly. It’s at the leading edge of body control systems and can even make the car dance and jump (like a Maybach GLS 600) and drive with just three wheels on the ground. Interestingly, the 1950s Citroen DS was the first car to manage this feat using an mechanical, hydraulic suspension management system. Watch it in operation in the BYD Yangwang U9 EV in the video above.

“The BYD DiSus system is the first self-developed intelligent body control system launched by a Chinese automobile company, marking the breakthrough from zero to one. The BYD DiSus System will further secure the globally pioneering stance for BYD in the industry” – Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD.

The DiSus system is a cool innovation that can manage some truly amazing feats in its advanced form (DiSus-X). However, the carmaker’s EVs sold in India, the Atto 3 electric SUV and E6 e-MPV, will not get the advanced features that are a part of this update since they don’t get adjustable suspension systems.
