Remember the long-lived American carmaker that used to be the top luxury nameplate in your grandparents’ days? We rarely get to hear about Cadillac any longer, but that might be about to change with the new Celestiq EV. It’s an ultra-luxury flagship electric vehicle (EV) that’s built to rival Rolls Royce cars.
Here’s all we know about it:
The Celestiq combines the best aspects of Cadillac’s signature aesthetics such as the vertical headlights, but looks like nothing else on the road with the long, sleek bodywork and exquisite rear end styling. According to the carmaker, it will provide bespoke customisation options so that “no two (cars) will be alike.”
It has a shark nose front end with a large closed-up grille and vertical LED headlights. Its overall aesthetic is closely related to the Cadillac Lyriq EV that already exists in the USA and other markets and it shows, particularly in the rear end with the exaggerated overhang and L-shaped wrap-around taillights.
“The interior is defined by long uninterrupted surfaces and theme lines, the sense of movement is all around you. With such a clean design, it allowed the details to shine, emphasizing precision in even the smallest of areas, truly highlighting a sense of space and scale” – Tristan Murphy, Interior Design Manager of the Celestiq.
Inside, the Celestique’s cabin is minimalist with four independent seats and a panoramic glass roof. It has a flat dashboard with a simple, clean design and seems like an inviting canvas for bespoke modifications.
A wide range of combinations of materials for the upholstery and trimming will be offered for the customer, says Cadillac, adding that metal components around the cabin have been hand-milled and hand-polished, while the leather is cut and wrapped by hand. In a word, each Celestiq is special and unique, tailor-made to its owner’s preferences.
You get inside the Cadillac Celestiq through power-opening doors activated with a button in the place of a door handle. Inside, you’re greeted with a classy, flat dashboard with a full-width, 55-inch floating display. The centre console is simply a 11-inch touchscreen in the uncluttered cabin. Rear passengers get their own 12.6-inch screens.
The panoramic glass roof is not a sunroof, but on the plus side, it lets each passenger choose the amount of light permeating into their side of the cabin. Other features include acoustically laminated glass, four-zone climate control, 38-speaker AKG Studio Reference sound system and incredibly advanced active noise cancellation.
The Celestiq is powered by GM’s Ultium battery pack with a 111kWh capacity. It offers a company-estimated range of 483km on a full charge.
The battery is paired with a dual motors (providing all-wheel drive) good for 600PS and 868Nm of torque combined. Despite its massive size and being the newest contender in the luxury EV segment, the Celestiq has a projected 0-97kmph (0-60mph) time of 3.8 seconds!
The Celestiq will be manufactured at GM’s Global Technical Centre in Michigan starting in December 2023. The North American and European markets will get the first priority, and later, the EV is likely to be launched in other overseas markets.

However, since GM has already left the Indian market, it’s unlikely that the Celestiq will be offered here. In its home country, it’s projected to cost upwards of the Indian currency equivalent of Rs 2.5 crore.
