This Chinese e-scooter is really rocking that 90’s look while sporting some serious off-road cred

Chinese electric bikemaker Felo is back with yet another sporty scooter. However, this time around it’s not something big and edgy like the FW-06. In fact, it’s a smaller, cuter and strangely off-road-focused FW-03 e-scooter.

The FW-06 looks like an electric scooter that belongs in the present. The FW-03, on the other hand, dons the beautiful ‘90s vibe, one that makes its older sibling look like a remake. But, on it are modern bits like LED lighting and a 5-inch digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity.

The scooter will feature two variants - Strada (road) and Off-road. In the Strada, speeds will be capped at 50kmph, but in Off-road, you can pull off up to 80kmph (all figures are claimed). The motor on the Felo FW-03 is said to deliver 4kW of power and 20Nm. To put that into perspective, the Ather 450X’s 6kW motor offers 26Nm of torque.

Its 1.44kWh battery pack claims a charging time of under eight hours and Felo says the scooter delivers a range of 100-120km from a single charge. The claimed range can be doubled by adding an extra battery pack.

The FW-03’s retro Dakar design and respectable performance are backed up by hardware that support the scooter’s off-road intentions. Under the beak that’s flanked by knuckle guards is a 12-inch front rim with fat, 100-section knobby tyre. At the back, the 10-inch rim comes shod with a wide 130-section block tread tyre. Braking is handled by single discs at either end and the combined braking system provides a bit of a safety net.

Finally, the FW-03 that’s currently only on sale in China will cost USD 2,300 or Yuan 15,500 (roughly Rs 1.83 lakh) for the Strada variant and USD 2,700 or Yuan 18,800 (roughly Rs 2.22 lakh) for the off-road version. While that’s a lot of money for some light off-road fun, in India, you can have the Ather 450X for Rs 1,38,006, whereas the Ola S1 Pro will set you back by Rs 1,20,149 (both ex-showroom Delhi including all subsidies).
