2024 has been an eventful year for the automotive industry and for us. The market has not only seen sales growth but has also witnessed a slew of new car launches, ranging from mass market to high-end luxury. And as is the case, India also saw the introduction of plenty of electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid models in the push for green mobility.
If you are an avid ZigWheels fan, you might have been familiar with our “Drive To Death” videos, where we drive these cars out of charge to tell you how much range you can expect in the real world. Grab some popcorn and watch these videos as these are the cars we did a proper range test in 2024.
First up is the video about India’s most popular EV, the Tata Nexon. In this range test video, we use two identical Tata Nexon EV Long Range versions with the 40 kWh battery pack. One Nexon EV has only the driver, while another Nexon EV carries 4 passengers, including the driver, as well as luggage of around 40 kg. The test routes include both the city and highway routes and you can check out how much both these cars managed to do in a single charge here.
Well, our second test also includes the Tata Nexon EV alongside its younger sibling the Punch EV. Although they are both electric SUVs, Tata’s 2 EVs fall under different segments but boast similar range figures. The Punch EV also closes the gap between the two when it comes to features. In this video, we test them together to find out their real world range.
In this episode of Drive To Death, we test the new Tata Curvv EV to check out how close its claimed range is to the real-world figure. Like the Nexon EV and Punch EV, the Curvv EV also comes in 2 battery packs, and we picked the range-topping 55 kWh version with a claimed range of 502 km (MIDC part I + II).
The BMW XM plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is not only claimed to be one of the fastest SUVs in the world but is also unbelievably fuel efficient, promising 61.9 kmpl, even with its weight of 2.8 tons. On the other hand, we have got the Toyota Hyryder – a strong hybrid compact SUV that claims to offer a mileage of 27.97 kmpl. In this video, we test these two poles apart hybrids to find out what they claim is true in the real world.
