Updated styling, overhauled interiors, more tech, and more range are set to comprise the upgrades on the ZS EV

  • Cleaner bumpers, new alloy wheels, and the Astor’s lighting setup comprise the styling upgrades.

  • Cabin will get the Astor’s digital driver’s display, a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen, rear AC vents and more.

  • Will likely get the UK-spec model’s new 51kWh battery pack, offering more range.

  • Should rekindle its rivalry with the Hyundai Kona Electric, which is due a facelift.

Mark your dates, the folks at MG Motors have announced the facelifted MG ZS electric SUV will be launched in India on March 7. The carmaker has already released a few images of the updated ZS EV, which looks fairly identical to the UK-spec model that debuted in October 2021

For this midlife refresh, the most noticeable change is at the front with the elimination of the faux front grille. The grille is flanked by headlights that are a straight lift from the Astor, the front bumper is cleaner, and the alloy wheels have gotten a new design. The rear is set to get the Astor’s tail lamps and a distinct bumper design.

Early spy images revealed an overhaul of the cabin, with Astor inspirations such as the same 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver’s display. For the rear seat occupants, there’s now a rear centre armrest, head rest for the middle occupants, and rear AC vents. It remains to be seen if the Astor’s personal AI assistant also makes it to the updated ZS EV.

Earlier spy images reveal Astor-like Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), thanks to the 360-degree camera. These assists should include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep/departure assist, and blind spot detection.

Under the hood, the facelifted ZS EV will likely get the same 143PS unit from before,  but could get a larger 51kWh battery pack like the UK-spec model. The new battery pack helps in offering a WLTP-claimed range of 318km instead of the earlier 262km (with the 44.5kWh unit). There’s also an optional 72kWh battery pack, capable of offering 439km range on a single charge, but it is yet to be seen whether it will make it to the India-spec model.

The facelifted MG ZS EV should command a premium over the current-gen model, which retails from Rs 21.49 lakh to Rs 25.18 lakh (ex-showroom, India), considering the updates on offer. It will rekindle its rivalry with the Hyundai Kona Electric, which is also due a midlife refresh.
