A fairly long time has passed since Hyundai unleashed its first electric vehicle under the dedicated Ioniq range, the Ioniq 5 in February 2021. Well now, it's almost time for the second EV, the Ioniq 6 to show up, and the carmaker has released the first teaser video of the new EV.
While the teaser doesn’t actually reveal any physical bits of the Ioniq 6, it emphasised a streamlined theme, showcasing plenty of smooth examples. Fortunately, we already have got a glimpse of how the EV will look thanks to earlier (heavily disguised) images. Being based on the Prophecy EV coupe concept, the IONIQ 6 will retain some of the concept’s smooth flowing nature with a low-slung bonnet and arching roofline. It also seems to have a taillight cluster with similar pixel effect as the Ioniq 5.

We’re yet to take a peek inside, but we think it’ll take plenty of inspiration from the futuristic Ioniq 5. What stands out for the latter is a sliding centre console, as well as two combined 12-inch digital screens that comprise a digital driver display and a touchscreen infotainment system. It could also come with an augmented reality head-up display (AR HUD), electronically adjustable front seats and, of course, ADAS.

Firstly, the Ioniq 6 will be built on Hyundai’s dedicated Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) like the Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. So, the electric sedan should get two battery packs with rear-wheel drive (single-motor) and all-wheel drive (dual motor) powertrain options, with the claimed range likely being over 480km on a single charge.
Post its debut, there’s a good chance we will see the EV in India, possibly in 2023, as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is slated for market launch in the second half of 2022. The Ioniq 6 will be part of Hyundai India’s electric roadmap which will see the carmaker introduce up to six EVs by 2028.
