MG Comet EV’s cabin will be laden with creature comforts, contrary to the stereotypical norms for an EV its size

  • MG Comet to debut in India on April 19

  • Gets dual 10.25-inch screens for the infotainment and digital driver’s display

  • Infotainment screen to offer three-pages of customisable widgets and connected car tech.

  • Physical rotating dials for HVAC control available, big thumbs up.

  • International markets get two range options with maximum 300km claimed range, India-spec technical details yet to be revealed.

  • MG could price the Comet EV from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards.

Following the release of the debut date of the MG Comet and a teaser of its cabin before that, MG has now given us our first look at the entire dashboard of its upcoming EV. The Comet EV, which is essentially a rebadged Wuling Air EV, will make its debut in the country on April 19 and here are the new deets that the latest teaser has revealed:

Multi-coloured theme

As seen in the picture, the dashboard is a photocopy of the Wuling Air EV, save for the MG branding. The colours for the dashboard, AC vent housing, side panels and even the steering wheel hue are all slightly different with subtle contrasting shades, especially between the steering, side panel and the AC vent surrounds.

Look and visual feel

The central AC vents look slim and have this silver finish for the housing around them, which extends up, towards the dual screens, each 10.25-inches, for the infotainment system and the digital driver’s display. The floating displays look premium, especially because of their clean integration that’s done on a single panel. Overall, the MG Comet’s cabin seems like a pleasant place to spend time in.

Note: Wuling Air EV cabin shown for reference

Below the central AC vents can be found rotary dials which control the air coming out of the vents above. This is a welcome departure from many new age cars where the climate control functionality is integrated in the infotainment system, requiring some getting used to.

On the same panel can also be found a square button with “E/S” written on it, and while we can’t confirm what it specifies as of now, we believe it to be the “Eco” and “Sport” driving modes that the Comet EV could get.

As for the infotainment system, the resolution looks to be crisp but that’s something we’ll be able to give a confirmation once we have a look at it in person so stay tuned for that. Apart from that, you get three pages of fully customisable widgets to set the location of a particular function according to one's own preference.

Other expected features include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and probably, a parking camera as well, while connected car technology has already been confirmed.

Powertrains

The Air EV sold in Indonesia gets two powertrain options: Standard and Long Range, the latter of which boasts a claimed range of up to 300km. Irrespective of the variant, it gets a single 41PS e-motor that propels the vehicle.

We understand that a lot of these functions are speculations as of now, but fret not, as all of this will be confirmed and reiterated once the MG Comet EV debuts within a week’s time. We expect the Comet EV to be priced in the ballpark of Rs 10 to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). In terms of rivals it will be a smaller alternative to the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3
