The new driver announcements mark new beginnings for one driver and a homecoming for another

New driver signings, be it Formula 1 or Formula E, can bring what can be unexpected news for some and exciting for others. This one is no less as Indian driver Jehan Daruvala, famed to be India's next Formula 1 hopeful, is now headed to Formula E with Maserati for the 2023/24 campaign. Daruvala has consistently shown his talent in Formula 2, with four race wins and 18 podiums. But it won’t be the first time for him inside a Gen3 Formula E car, as he made two rookie test appearances in 2023.

The 24-year old will be teaming up with 26-year old Maximilian Günther, who is already a veteran in Formula E with two pole positions, four podiums, and the Maserati brand’s first victory in World Championship single-seaters in his bag.

The other shocker is actually a homecoming for ex-Formula 1 driver Nyck de Vries, who has picked up a contract with Mahindra Racing for the upcoming season. This will mark his comeback into the world of Formula E, after he became the inaugural World Champion back in season 7, before he left for his short-lived Formula 1 stint.

After his announcement, Nyck de Vries said “Coming back to Formula E will feel like coming home. I’ve been part of the Formula E family for three seasons, I know everybody very well. I’m looking forward to being back in a familiar environment, and to be back somewhere where ultimately, I’ve always enjoyed my racing.”

He’s been teamed alongside Edoardo Mortara for Mahindra Racing’s 2023/24 campaign.

It’ll be interesting to see how Jehan fares in what will be a newish challenge for him, while the comeback of the championship winner, Nyck De Vries, will have equal attention on him, especially after a not-so-impressive Formula 1 stint. Both the drivers will compete in the 2023/24 campaign and will start their pre-season testing sometime in October.
