Taiwanese electric scooter manufacturer Gogoro has initiated its pilot programme in the Delhi/NCR. The company made its India debut last year with Zypp Electric – a Delhi-based company with experience in providing EV-as-a-Service.
The pilot programme has been started with 90 units of Gogoro 2-Series electric scooters and six battery-swap stations. These e-scooters will run for six months, and collect operational data about the riding patterns, battery usage and swapping patterns. Furthermore, of the six swap stations, four are in Gurugram and two in Delhi.
Gogoro intends to use the learnings from its pilot project to optimise its manufacturing process in India. From product design to understanding the performance of the battery packs, the Taiwanese company could potentially develop products specifically designed for the Indian market. It is expected that the localised Gogoro products could debut later this year.
That said, the company will be expanding in a phase-wise manner and focus on five to six cities in the first two years. Gogoro recently also announced its partnership with Zomato, offering e-scooters to their delivery personnels. Its six-second swap-and-go system will not just reduce downtime but also aid providers like Zypp Electric to offer last-mile delivery services to other e-commerce brands
The company mentioned that the new battery regulations have not caused any problems to the company’s launch plans.
