The Harley-Davidson LiveWire S2 Del Mar LE, the bikemaker’s upcoming electric bike has been teased, and will be unveiled on May 10. The S2 Del Mar will be Harley’s first offering under the new ‘Arrow’ platform, which will also serve as the base for the upcoming S3, and S4 electric bikes.
Under the new platform, e-bike is built on a monocoque frame that uses the battery pack with aluminium casing as the stressed member. So, the steering head, as well as the swingarm pivot are linked to the battery pack. The motor sits just behind the pack, near the swingarm pivot, and the electric bike is likely to use an air-cooled setup for the battery considering it’s a relatively lower-end offering compared to the more premium S4. Harley will be using “21700” type cells for the battery pack, and expect it to offer performance equivalent to that of a 400cc ICE-powered motorcycle, and at least a 100-odd km range.
The styling is similar to the concept e-bike, which follows a flat track theme, just like the Indian FTR1200. The teaser shows the rear wheel, along with the stubby tail section and a tyre-hugger-integrated number plate holder. Interestingly, the ‘LE’ in the name S2 Del Mar LE possibly means Limited Edition, and the caption “Be 1 of 100 at launch 5.10.22” also reinforces the same possibility, with availability likely to be limited to only 100 units.
Harley could load this e-bike with several bells and whistles and more affordable, slightly less feature-packed variants can be expected later. More details regarding the specifications and other features will be revealed at the unveiling event, so stay tuned!
