May has been a pretty hot month, be it the weather or bike launches. Apart from all the BS 6.2 updates, we also got the return of the Bajaj Avenger 220 Street, the spoke wheel variant of the KTM 390 Adventure with adjustable suspension and of course, Simple also launched India’s longest range electric scooter, the One. But coming to June, things might get a bit cooler in some ways, and hotter in others. So here’s a list of all the bikes that we expect will be launched this month.
Earlier attempts to modernise the legendary Karizma moniker, such as the Karizma ZMR, have been a bit misguided. But Hero’s upcoming Karizma XMR 210 looks promising. We’ve seen the bike in some spy shots and more clearly at a recent dealer event, and this fully faired beauty certainly looks the part. It will be powered by a 210cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor making about 25PS and 20Nm. So, unlike the XPulse 200, which struggles at highway speeds, expect this Karizma to have some proper top-end grunt. In terms of straight line performance, it might even match the KTM RC200, but it should be much more affordable - about Rs 1.75 lakh (ex-showroom).
The original Passion Plus, basically a stylish Splendor Plus, was discontinued around the time of the BS6 update. But photos from a recent dealer event have all but confirmed that the Passion Plus is coming back in a BS6.2 avatar. Its design is almost identical to the old Passion Plus, but with a few minor tweaks. And it’ll also run the engine from the current Splendor Plus. As for the price, we expect it to be around Rs 75,000 ex-showroom.
It’s been over a year since we first saw the TVS iQube ST, then we saw it again at Auto Expo 2023, and then again at Moto Soul 2023. But there’s still officially no word about when it might launch. The reason we’re so excited about this top-spec iQube ST is because it’s supposed to pack a 4.56kWh battery pack with an Ather 450X-rivaling range of 145km. So will June finally be the month that TVS launches the iQube ST? With the FAME II subsidy drastically slashed, and prices of even the base TVS iQube jumping up quite a bit, we feel TVS might struggle to price the ST right, driving its price up to almost Rs 1.80 lakh by our guesstimate, which might push its launch even further. But we’ve all still got our collective fingers crossed.
We recently saw the Orxa Mantis at India Bike Week 2022. Basically, this is an electric sport naked that promises a peak power of 28kW and 105Nm of torque. Orxa claims that the Mantis can accelerate from zero to 100kmph in 10 seconds and get to a top speed of 140kmph - that would put it somewhere in the ballpark of the Suzuki Gixxer 250. Orxa also says that its 9kWh battery pack gives it a range of 200km in the city. But with a 9kWh battery, don’t expect this to get any FAME 2 subsidy. This means prices will be in Ultraviolette F77 territory - around Rs 3.0 lakh
We have spoken endlessly about the new Triumph Street Triple 765, and Arun has also ridden it around the famous Jerez circuit in Spain. This 765cc inline-triple roadster was supposed to be launched in April of this year, but we think that with Bajaj taking over Triumph’s operations in India, the Street Triple’s launch took a bit of a backseat. This month, though, we’ll get both the R and RS versions of the new Street Triple. Expect prices between Rs 9.40 and Rs 11.70 lakh. As for the Moto 2 special edition… that’s not on the cards for India.
No! The most affordable Triumph motorcycles, developed and made by Bajaj Will NOT be launched in June. But as the big man himself, Rajiv Bajaj, announced, the global unveil of these motorcycles will happen on June 27th in the UK. Although we’ve seen spy shots of both the Scrambler and Roadster testing multiple times, we still don’t know exact technical details. We expect them to be powered by a liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor, maybe around 350cc, with around 35 to 38 horsepower on tap. But.. we’ll just have to wait till the end of June to get all details.
So those are all the new two-wheelers we’re expecting to see in June. But what about Royal Enfield’s Himalayan 450 and J-series Bullet 350 you ask? Well, those launches seem to have been pushed a little bit. We think Royal Enfield might want to wait and see what Triumph-Bajaj and Harley-Davidson do with their upcoming made-in-India bikes, before launching their own trump cards.
