The MG Comet will be the carmaker’s compact electric vehicle and will come loaded with plentiful gizmos and features

  • MG Comet to debut in India on April 19.
  • It’s basically the rebadged Wuling Air EV sold in Indonesia.
  • Small size and bright colours do make it stand out.
  • Comes loaded with dual 10.25-inch screens, climate control and multiple airbags.
  • Indonesian version gets Standard and Long Range options, MG yet to finalise for India.
  • Prices are expected to start around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

The MG Comet EV is a cutesy electric vehicle that seems to be promising with its ultra compact dimensions and upmarket features. It’s basically a rebadged version of the Wuling Air EV sold in the Indonesian market. And while MG has already given a fair idea of how the Indian model will look via images, the carmaker will reveal the production version in the country on April 19.

MG is yet to reveal technical details, but since this is almost a xerox copy of the Air EV, let’s get cracking. Sizewise, the Comet is 2,974mm long, 1,505mm wide, 1,631mm tall and sits on a 2.010mm wheelbase. Yes, it’s very small, but pair it with bright colours such as yellow or green and you have a funky-looking tiny electric vehicle.

While, the Comet might be small, step inside and its dashboard design isn’t anywhere near entry-level. It gets dual 10.25-inch screens housing the touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver’s display and a tinge of quirkiness can be seen in its two-spoke steering wheel, which has Apple iPod-like buttons for the controls.

It’s also relatively well-loaded for such a tiny EV. Highlights include automatic climate control, connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and probably, a parking camera as well.

In Indonesia, the Air EV comes with two powertrain options: Standard and Long Range. MG hasn’t confirmed which powertrain will make it to India, but here’s a quick spec update on both the powertrain options:
