Hero MotoCorp and American electric bikemaker Zero Motorcycles' partnership, which began in 2022, has now embarked on its next step as through Hero’s latest annual report, it was announced that Zero’s bikes will not only be launched in India, but will also be manufactured here.
Zero’s expertise in electric two-wheelers will be joining hands with Hero's manufacturing, sourcing, marketing, and distribution prowess. So if done right, this partnership could be quite a game-changing one, especially for the Indian electric motorcycle industry.
It’s exciting because Zero's current international lineup has it all: dual-sport, naked, adventure, and even sport bikes. Heck, the SR/S, Zero’s flagship supersport boasts of a 17.3kWh battery pack and 82kW motor that can propel it to a 200kmph top speed! For perspective, the Ultraviolette F77 Recon has a 10.5kWh battery pack and a 29kW motor, both of which are the largest of any electric two-wheeler in the country.

As to which Zero models will make their way to India is uncertain. And given how performance-oriented Zero bikes are, don’t expect them to be cheap motorcycles. That said, the partnership with Hero should help them price the bikes at least relatively competitively. In fact, this will also open up possibilities of Hero using Zero’s R&D to manufacture India-specific electric motorcycles.
