MG has officially teased the entry of its Cloud EV crossover ahead of official launch in India. The Cloud EV is sold under the “Wuling” brand in overseas markets such as Indonesia. Before we get a sneak-peek into the India-spec model we take a closer look at the international-spec car through these images and try to decipher as much information as we can.
The front fascia of the MG Cloud EV gets a simple and straightforward design, with connected LED DRLs strip running across the width of the car on the upper section and large LED headlamp units situated down below in the bumpers. Unlike the MG Comet EV, the Cloud EV does not get a charging port up front. Large air-intake grille is situated further down in the bumpers to provide ventilation for the batteries.
The side profile of the MG Cloud EV gets subtle sculpting with minimal character lines.
It gets flush-type door handles with large ORVMs and windows for better visibility and increasing the sense of space in the interior. Notably, the charging ports have been situated on either side of the front and rear fenders. The MG Cloud EV gets large aero-designed 18-inch alloy wheels which suit the design language and overall proportions of the car.
The rear of the MG Cloud EV gets a similar minimalist treatment with bulbous proportions and a connected LED tail light running across the width of the car, as seen on the MG Comet EV. The signature lighting elements give the Cloud EV a unique presence on the roads.
The interior dashboard layout of the MG Cloud EV gets a minimalist design with soft touch materials and bronze elements. A large 15.6-inch touchscreen takes the centre stage which houses almost all the vital functionalities of the vehicle and an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display. Additionally, it gets premium quilted leather upholstery for the seats.
Finally, the comfort and practicality quotient of the MG Cloud increases with reclining front seats to make it a lounge-like seating inside while charging the vehicle and foldable rear seats liberates tremendous amounts of space to carry a whole family’s luggage.
The MG Cloud sold in the Indonesian market is well packed with comfort, convenience and safety features. It gets a 15.6-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with connected car tech, an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display, wireless phone charging, automatic climate control unit, automatic LED headlamps, electronic tailgate and even ambient lighting.
On the safety front, the MG Cloud gets 4-airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, electronic parking brake with auto hold functionality, ISOFIX child seat mounts, ADAS and tyre pressure monitoring system.
The MG Cloud sold overseas packs in a 50.6 kWh battery pack which powers a single front wheel drive motor churning out 136 PS and 200 Nm. The MG Cloud has a CLTC claimed range of 460 km. Upon DC fast charging, the MG Cloud can be charged from 30 to 100 percent in about 30 minutes and upon AC slow charging, can juice up from 20 to 100 percent in around 7 hours.
The MG Cloud EV is expected to be introduced around the Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) mark and will rival other EVs in the market like the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400 and the upcoming Tata Curvv EV.
