MG Motor India has taken the wraps off India’s smallest four-seater electric vehicle, the Comet EV. It’s basically a rebadged version of the Wuling Air EV that’s on sale in the Indonesian market. For now, MG has given us a good look at the car inside and out. The Comet EV is expected to go on sale soon.
The MG Comet EV is a small and compact electric vehicle with boxy styling elements. Up front, the compact EV gets a pair of headlamps with an LED light bar spanning the width of the car. In profile, the Comet’s design is upright with a tallboy silhouette and it comes with 12-inch steel wheels. And once again at the rear, the Comet EV gets square tail lamps with an LED bar.
The compact electric vehicle gets three colour options: Aurora Silver, Candy White and Apple Green. The white colour can be had with the option of a black roof, while green comes in dual-tone hue only.
Inside, the Comet EV’s dashboard features twin 10.25-inch screens comprising the digital driver’s display and touchscreen infotainment system. Below the infotainment screen are the physical rotary controls for the air con. The hatchback also gets a two-spoke steering wheel with Apple iPod-like buttons for the controls.
In terms of features, the Comet EV gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, over 55 connected car features, digital key (where you can unlock the car using your phone), manual AC, keyless entry with push button start and 50:50 split rear seats. On the safety front, it comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX child-seat mounts and rear parking sensors with camera.
Now, MG is yet to announce technical specifications of the EV. But, based on a leaked document, the Comet EV gets a 17.3kWh battery pack, paired with a 42PS e-motor, good enough for a claimed range of 230km. In Indonesia, the Wuling Air EV gets the option of a larger 26.7kWh battery, good enough for a claimed range of up to 300km.
The MG Comet EV’s price is expected to be announced soon and we suspect it would cost from around Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be a smaller alternative to the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3.
