A hardcore electric adventure bike, that too, made in India. Seems like a stretch doesn’t it? Well, to stretch our horizons, Ultraviolette might actually be working on an ADV bike. Why do we think so? Well because the Bengaluru-based EV maker has trademarked the X44 name.
Remember November 2022, when Ultraviolette launched F77, India’s first performance electric bike? The same time, UV had revealed its future plans on electrifying the Indian EV space. And that vision included an electric adventure bike that slightly resembled the BMW 310 GS with a beak and a small fairing. Another reason that we believe it could be an ADV is because we had witnessed an easter egg of sorts at the Ultraviolette headquarters. It had sketches of an ADV bike on the walls when we visited the premises in Bengaluru.
Now with the name trademark in place, let’s dive deep into what the bike could be. Firstly, it is unlikely to be based on the same platform as the F77, and will be an all-new bike built from the ground up. So expect a new motor for off-road centric performance – high torque and less peak power. One of the most important things would be to make the bike lighter, so expect a smaller battery than the one featured on the F77, as the battery itself weighs a massive 70kg, and the bike’s kerb weight is 207kg. So UV could bring down the weight to 180kg, at least what it should ideally do. However, the consequence of making the battery smaller and lighter will be reduced range as well.
In terms of capabilities, the Ultraviolette X44 is likely to be a hardcore offroader, something similar to the Hero XPulse 200. Considering all the tests that F77 had gone through off the roads, we can expect the EV maker to deliver something solid and fun.
While the excitement for this can be real high, the launch is still likely to be far away. Perhaps mid-2025. Apart from that, it is too early to get into any further details of the bike, but do stay tuned to ZigWheels for more updates on the adventure e-bike.
