It will share its foundations with the Husqvarna E-Pilen

The KTM Duke’s next phase of life was bound to be electric. Hence, it comes as no surprise as an investor document of Pierer Mobility AG, KTMs parent company, has revealed the existence of the e-Duke. The upcoming electric KTM naked will have the mental madness of its ICE cousins but the specs aren't as promising.

For starters, the KTM E-Duke will be sharing its powertrain and will be based on the same platform as its sister company Husqvarna’s E-Pilen concept that was unveiled last year. The E-Duke gets a 5kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is fixed and not swappable. The electric motorcycle could offer a paltry range of 100km. For a performance motorcycle, this feels like a big let down. Hopefully, by the time the bike hits the streets, battery technology should have made enough advancements for it to boast a better range figure.

Even the e-Pilen’s 10kW motor is expected to feature here. It will be a big step up when compared to the likes of the Tork Kratos R, which has a peak power rating of 9kW.

The E-Duke is likely to fall under the 200cc ICE motorcycle segment in terms of performance. Other than the E-Duke, the investor presentation also displayed the KTM’s E-10, Freeride E LV and Husqvarna E-Pilen.

The E-Duke and E-Pilen share many similarities in terms of platform and powertrain, the only difference is in the body styling, where the E-Duke gets the more aggressive KTM appeal. Quite similar to how Husqvarna’s Vitpilen and Svartpilen are based on KTM’s Duke range.

The electric two-wheeler space has been growing exponentially not just in India but across the world, and KTM has dipped its toes in the game with the entry-level E-Duke. It will take quite some time for the E-Duke to head to our shores, till then you can check out the electric bikes available in India like the Tork Kratos and the more powerful Ultraviolette F77 set to launch in March.
