LML, a brand known in India for its scooters, could soon join hands with Germany-based eRockit AG, a company that produces electric bikes. This update comes just weeks after we reported that eRockit is looking to expand to India.
The companies have signed a Letter Of Intent (LOI), and could soon commence production of the eRockit e-bikes at LML’s own facility (the erstwhile Harley-Davidson India factory) in Bawal, Haryana. This facility may also be responsible for domestic sales and exports too.
The eRockit e-bikes that would be sold in India would be marketed under LML and the company intends to incentivise it under the FAME-II scheme. Interestingly, while eRockit calls its products “Hyper Human Hybrids” and do not feature a throttle, the Indian model will have throttle assist to comply with our regulations. LML Electric intends to equip it with GPRS-connected telematics and other sophisticated features.
The eRockit is a unique EV which features high-end hardware like a 37mm adjustable USD fork, a preload-adjustable monoshock, a 300mm disc with a 4-pot calliper up front and a 220mm disc at the rear paired with a two-piston calliper.
That said, eRockit’s USP is its pedal assist feature which, coupled with the mid-mounted 16kW motor, can propel the e-bike to a top speed of 89kmph and has a claimed range of 120km.
The eRockit e-bike will be an interesting proposition in our market. With no direct competition at the moment, and e-bikes slowly gaining traction, the German product is likely to go unrivalled here.
