LML is bringing back their iconic scooter, the LML Star
The scooter will be coming to India in an electric avatar
It features a radically new design and styling
LML is bringing back the Star, an iconic scooter which they used to manufacture back in the 1990s. The scooter is now coming in a new electric avatar, with a modern design, styling and features. This will be the second time we are seeing an iconic scooter from the past being revived in an electric avatar, after the Bajaj Chetak.
The new LML Star e-scooter features a modern looking design, with a single-projector LED headlight mounted on the tall apron. It has a large floorboard, which looks quite spacious. The scooter also gets a massive looking single-piece seat and sports sharp looking bodypanels. The scooter overall doesn’t really try to keep up with the retro-style design language that we had seen on the original LML Star.
We expected the brand to use a design that is similar to the retro one which we had seen on the original LML Star. This would have been a nice way to pay homage to the original scooter. Similar to what Bajaj did with the Chetak. Nonetheless, the design choice is quite unique and makes the scooter stand out compared to the rest.
So far LML hasn’t revealed the scooter’s specifications. But judging by the images, we can make out the Star’s underpinnings. It will get a telescopic fork and a single-sided shock absorber. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends. The scooter also gets a belt drive.
Features wise, the Star has a rectangular instrument console. It could be a TFT unit, with features such as smartphone connectivity and related bits. The e-scooter could offer turn-by-turn navigation and call/SMS alerts.
Overall, the scooter looks quite promising thanks to the unconventional design and styling. It is also interesting to see older Indian manufacturers coming back into the industry with these new electric scooters.
We expect the LML Star to be showcased at Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, which will take place from 17th January to 22nd January 2025. The e-scooter could be launched sometime by the end of 2025 or in the beginning of 2026. It could be priced somewhere between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.2 lakh ex-showroom.
