The BE 6 offers a greater wheelbase which essentially leads to a more spacious cabin, but has Mahindra utilized the extra space effectively in the second row? Let’s find out
Mahindra BE 6 and Hyundai Creta Electric are both the newest and hottest electric SUV launches in India. Both SUVs offer a very appealing package in terms of design, interior, features and powertrain and are available across a range of variants. The Creta EV has a more conventional SUV appearance, while the BE 6 gets a sloping roofline which gives it a unique style.
Both these SUVs cater to a mid-size family of around 4-5 members, with the importance of having a fairly spacious rear seat. So, in this article, we take a look at which SUV offers the better rear seat comfort and space.
Mahindra BE 6 Vs Hyundai Creta Electric: Rear Seat Experience
The ICE-powered version of the Creta was always known for offering a comfortable and decently spacious rear seat. The Creta Electric is on similar lines if not the exact same. Usually, there is a drawback of the electric powertrain - lack of under-thigh support due to the raised floor as the battery pack is placed under the floor. However, Hyundai has smartly positioned the seat base in the upward direction while dropping the hip point slightly. This leads to the under-thigh support being uncompromised in the process.
Nothing great, but there is enough headroom on offer for taller passengers of 6 feet or above. The foot room and knee room on offer are sufficient even for tall passengers. While it is not ideal to squeeze in three well-built passengers at the back, it still can be done easily with a bit of shoulder touching.
On the other hand, we have the BE 6! The Mahindra SUV is unlike most coupe SUVs that compromise on headroom due to the sloping roofline. The BE 6 is very much capable of ensuring that a 6-foot-tall person can sit comfortably behind another 6-foot-tall person sitting in the front seat. The foot room and under-thigh support are both adequate, and the slightly angled seat base helps its case. If you're 6 feet or below you won’t face any troubles, but if you are taller than that you will find your hair brushing against the headliner. The seats of the BE 6 are designed to keep you comfortable over longer journeys without inducing much fatigue.
Where the Creta Electric excels is that it comes with large rear windows, offering a wider view and giving the cabin an airy effect. But the BE 6’s large glass roof enables plenty of light to come in.
It is important to note that the BE 6’s rear seat is best suited for only two passengers and squeezing in three passengers won't be easy.
Both SUVs offer comfort and convenience features that ensure that you have an enjoyable experience in the rear seat. The BE 6 offers the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) experience, while the Creta Electric additionally comes with an electric boss mode function to enhance the rear-seat space and a retractable tray with cupholders and slots to keep your phone or tablet. Both SUVs offer charging ports, rear AC vents and large cupholders for your water bottles.
Price And Rivals
The Hyundai Creta Electric is priced from Rs 17.99 lakh to Rs 24.3 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Mahindra BE 6’s prices range from Rs 18.9 lakh to Rs 26.9 lakh. It competes with the likes of MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, and Maruti e Vitara.
Verdict
The Mahindra BE 6 is pricier and also offers many more premium features for your convenience and safety. The back seats of both these SUVs have decent space and convenience, but the Creta Electric offers more peace of mind if spending time in the back seat is your priority. It is more suited for taller passengers of above 6 feet and three passengers can be seated more comfortably in the Creta EV’s back seat. However, we suggest that you check out these SUVs in person to get a better understanding of how the rear seat feels.
