Mahindra has showcased the XEV 9e electric SUV coupe at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 alongside the BE 6. It is to be noted that the automaker has already revealed the prices of the Pack One and Pack Three variants of the electric SUV. Bookings for the Pack Three variant will open on 14 February, while the customer deliveries will commence in March 2025.
To start with, the XEV 9e has an upright front end dominated by prominent LED DRLs that comprises a full length light bar and vertical slats adjoining the headlights, a completely blanked-off grille, and an illuminated infinity logo, which is exclusive to cars that fall under XEV sub-brand.
The side profile features a coupe-style sloping roofline. Plus, there is chunky cladding in gloss black. Another highlight here is the set of 19-inch aero optimised alloy wheels, which can be optionally upgraded to 20-inch units. There are also flush door handles similar to the Mahindra XUV 700 and they also support NFC card key function to lock and unlock the doors.
At the back, the XEV 9e, as seen in the picture, features a unique and sleek taillamp setup similar to its DRLs at the front. There is also a spoiler extended from the roof, while the smoothed-surface tailgate has an infinity logo. Last but not least, the glossy black treatment for the rear bumper has been carried out from the front and side.
It is to be noted that the electric SUV offers a boot space of 663 litres and a 150-litre front trunk (frunk).
The interior of the XEV 9e takes inspiration from the on-sale XUV 700. However, Mahindra has created a distinction between the two though. It features a more minimalist layout with a new two-spoke steering wheel with a 12 o’clock mark, an ultrawide panel comprising three 12.3-inchscreens, and a distinct centre console with a terrain mode selector and a gear selector. The XEV 9e has a boot space of 663 litres, while front trunk (frunk) space is 150 litres.
Mahindra has bestowed the XEV 9e with numerous features, such as auto park, semi-active suspension, a 12.3-inch three-screen setup comprising a fully digital driver’s display, infotainment system, and co-driver’s display; wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, an augmented reality heads-up display, a 16-speaker, 1,400 Watt, Harman Kardon sound system, cooled centre storage, 65 Watt charging ports, and multiple driving modes.
Safety kit of the XEV 9e includes Level 2+ ADAS, 7 airbags, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, four-wheel disc brakes, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill hold control, a 360-degree camera, and brake-by-wire.
Powering the XEV 9e is a 59 kWh and a 79 kWh battery pack coupled to a single motor – it has a rear-wheel drive setup. Notably, they deliver a range of up to 542 km and 656 km (MIDC Phase 1+2), respectively. With the former battery pack, this motor makes 231 PS and 380 Nm, while with the latter, the power output stands at 286 PS and 380 Nm.
The XEV 9e is compatible with a 140kW and 175kW DC fast charger. Both super-fast chargers can juice up both the batteries from 20 to 80 percent in a claimed 20 minutes. On the other hand, the 7.2kW and 11kW AC wall box chargers can fully charge the 59 kWh battery in 8.7 hours and 6 hours, respectively. The same AC chargers take 11.7 hours and 8 hours to charge the 79 kWh battery completely, respectively.
Currently, the Mahindra XEV 9e takes on some closest competitors, such as the MG ZS EV and BYD Atto 3 as well as the upcoming Tata Harrier EV. It is also an economical alternative to the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
