Mahindra XUV.e9 and XUV.e8 spied testing at high altitude
The XUV.e8 is the all-electric avatar of the XUV700
The XUV.e9 sports a coupe silhouette
Based on the INGLO platform, expected to be offered with multiple battery packs
The interior will get a triple-screen layout
Both are expected be launched by mid 2025, with the XUV.e8 set to be launched first
The upcoming Mahindra XUV.e9 and XUV.e8 have been spotted testing at high altitudes ahead of their expected launch next year. With the XUV.e8 based on the XUV700, and the Tata Harrier EV SUV which is expected to be launched next year as well, the Indian mid-size SUV space will have a couple of electric options by next year!
Apart from the XUV.e8, we will also get the XUV.e9 SUV-coupe which is expected to be launched after the XUV.e8. Both the SUVs will bring in a premium cabin with plentiful niceties and modern exterior styling elements. For now, let’s take a look at the spy shots:
Starting with the XUV.e8, it is a mid-size electric SUV which gets the silhouette of the XUV700 mid-size SUV. The XUV.e9 on the other hand, gets a coupe design which will be unique in the mid-size segment.
Both these SUVs will boast modern design elements like connected LED headlamps, aerodynamic wheels, and flush door handles as seen in the images. A newly designed grille can be seen as well with aggressively styled bumpers.
The XUV.e8’s tail lights look similar to the current model of the XUV700, but the ones on the XUV.e9 look like a connected light setup. Both the models can also be seen with a shark fin antenna for a sporty appeal.
The upcoming Mahindra electric SUVs will feature a triple-screen consisting of the digital driver’s display, a centre infotainment system and an entertainment screen for the co-driver as revealed by a design patent earlier. Apart from the addition of the extra screen, the dashboard design and layout will be similar to the XUV700. However, it will feature a new two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel design with an illuminated centre logo, something that we have already seen on cars like the Tata Harrier and Tata Curvv.

Previous images have already shown us the gear lever design which seems to have been lifted off from the XUV400 EV.
The cabin is expected to be equipped with all the premium niceties, some of which could include a panoramic sunroof, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, powered front seats with ventilation, multi-colour ambient lighting, multiple wireless phone chargers and a premium audio system.
Safety should be taken care of by multiple airbags, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera and level-2 ADAS.
While the powertrain details are not revealed, we expect the two SUVs to be launched with multiple battery pack options. What we know is that the XUV.e8 and XUV.e9 are based on the new INGLO platform with both single and dual-motor options that can produce up to 395 PS of power. The platform can accommodate battery packs of 60kWh and 80kWh sizes that can offer a WLTP-claimed range of up to 450km.
Prices for the two SUVs are expected to be ranging anywhere from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom). The XUV.e9 will be a larger alternative to the Tata Curvv EV, while the XUV.e8 will be a larger alternative to the likes of MG ZS EV and upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, while being a direct rival to the upcoming Harrier EV.
