Mahindra’s first all-electric SUV is set to go on sale in January 2023

Now that we’ve had our first feel of Mahindra’s first-ever electric SUV, the XUV400, we have a better idea of what to expect from the upcoming Tata Nexon EV rival. Based on the XUV300 subcompact SUV, the XUV400 is a long-range electric vehicle set to go on sale in January 2023.

Here are all its details in ten images.

The new XUV400 has a familiar front-end styling, but with EV-specific design cues such as a closed-up front grille.

It has satin copper-coloured trim elements within the covered grille and on the front bumper and side cladding, in addition to a contrast satin copper roof and 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

At the rear, the SUV features a redesigned profile courtesy its longer length over its subcompact ICE counterpart. With a 200mm longer length, the electric SUV has a much larger 418-litre boot.

Inside, the XUV400 gets an all-black cabin with a 5-seater layout.

The EV’s dashboard is identical to the ICE XUV300 with the same overall design and layout of controls. It has a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen and copper-coloured surrounds on the outer air vents.

In addition, the XUV400 EV has a new drive mode selector lever on the centre console that features piano black elements.

Features such as connected car tech, electric sunroof, dual-zone climate control and rear parking camera will be present on the EV.

As for safety, the XUV400 will be equipped with six airbags, all four disc brakes, stability control (ESC), corner braking control and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

The Mahindra XUV400 EV is powered by a 150PS and 310Nm electric motor, an increase over its closest rival, the Nexon EV Max. With that power, the Mahindra electric SUV manages a claimed 0-100kmph time of 8.3 seconds and a top speed of 150kmph.

It’s powered by a 39.5kWh battery pack that’s good for an ARAI-claimed range of up to 456km. The battery can be juiced up to 80 per cent in 50 minutes using a 50kW DC fast charger. Plugged into a 7.2kWh AC wall box, a full charge comes in 6.5 hours.
