New XUV400 is based on the ICE XUV300’s underpinnings.
Powered by 150PS e-motor with 0-100kmph in 8.3 seconds.
Its 39.4 kWh battery pack is good for 456km of claimed range.
Launch slated for January 2023 with prices starting at around Rs 17 lakh.
Mahindra has taken the wraps off its first all-electric SUV in India, the XUV400 EV. It’s scheduled to go on sale in January 2023 as a rival to the Tata Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV Max.
The production-spec XUV400 EV bears the new Mahindra ‘Twin Peaks’ logo in copper that signifies its all-electric powertrain. In addition, it has copper elements in the closed-up grille and copper-coloured exterior trim bits on the front bumper and side cladding. It even has a copper-finish dual-tone roof and snazzy diamond-cut 16-inch alloy wheels.
At the rear, it gets a distinct profile compared to its ICE sibling owing to the EV’s longer length of 4.2 metres, around 200mm more than the ICE-powered XUV300. Although its 2,600mm wheelbase is identical to the subcompact SUV, the XUV400 EV has a larger boot capacity of up to 418 litres.
Inside, the XUV400’s dashboard is similar to the ICE XUV300 in its overall design. It gets an all-black cabin theme with copper inserts in the outer air vents, with a redesigned centre console and shift lever.
The Mahindra XUV400 EV may be based on the XUV300, but it uses 45 per cent high-strength steel construction with EV-specific modifications to the frame. For better ride quality, it has frequency-dependent suspension damping, similar to the Scorpio N.

Its feature list includes an electric sunroof, a 7-inch touchscreen system with 60+ connected car features and dual-zone climate control. On the safety front, the XUV400 EV offers six airbags, a rear parking camera, electronic stability control (ESC), cornering brake control, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, and multiple active safety features as well.
The Mahindra XUV400 EV is powered by a 150PS and 310Nm e-motor that can propel the EV to 100kmph from standstill in a claimed 8.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 150km. It’s paired with a 39.5kWh battery pack good for an ARAI-claimed claimed range of up to 456km.
The battery can be charged to 80 per cent in 50 mins using a 50kW charger. With a 7.2kW AC wallbox, the XUV400 takes up 6.5 hours to juice up fully.
