  • To be longer than the ICE powered XUV300.

  • Slated for debut on September 08.

Mahindra has dropped another teaser of the XUV400 as the all-electric SUV inches towards its reveal on September 8. The carmaker’s first all-electric SUV for our market will be longer than its sub-four-metre ICE-powered XUV300.

The latest teaser hints towards a few design revisions as it highlights the headlights that seem to be similar to those seen on the XUV300, apart from the removal of the extended DRLs. The teaser also gives a dekko at the revised taillights that, too, seem similar to the XUV300’s stop lamps, save for the revised internals.

Traced from the initial teaser, the front fascia sports a revised dual-tone grill with the new ‘Twin Peaks’ logo finished in copper colour. The SUV won’t be a sub-four-metre offering and it will be longer than the XUV300 by around 200mm. We’ve also got wind that its charging port will be housed in the front fender.

Mahindra’s all-electric SUV is expected to feature additional equipment along with the already-existing features list of the XUV300 that includes a sunroof, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and cruise control. Its safety kit should comprise multiple airbags, electronic stability control, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Spy shots reveal a larger infotainment system onboard the upcoming electric SUV along with a new digital instrument cluster.

Being a direct rival to the Tata Nexon, the powertrain specifications of the XUV400 are expected to be on a par with Tata’s electric SUV which offers a maximum claimed range of 437km. Like the Nexon EV, the XUV400 could also be offered with the choice of two powertrains with different battery sizes, offering varying claimed ranges.

We expect Mahindra to price the XUV400 from around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). Its pricing will put it in direct contention with the Nexon EV, while it will also be a more affordable alternative to the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric.
