Maruti Suzuki has globally unveiled the India-bound eVitara compact electric SUV ahead of its expected India launch in the summer of 2025. Up until now, Maruti only had petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles in India, and the eVitara will be its first ever electric offering in the country. The eVitara is the production-ready form of the eVX Concept which was showcased earlier in the 2023 Auto Expo, and its production will begin in early 2025 at Maruti’s Gujarat plant. The EV will be based on the new “HEARTECT-e” platform which is specifically developed for BEVs.
Ahead of its launch next year, here’s everything you need to know about Maruti’s upcoming mass market electric SUV:
Design-wise, Maruti has followed a robust and rugged design language for the eVitara. Up front, the design looks busy with plenty of cuts and creases. The LED headlights have a clean and sharp look to them and you get a blacked-out bumper which has been aggressively styled for a bulkier look. The lower section of the bumper houses the fog lamps.
In profile, the eVitara gets 18-inch blacked-out alloy wheels (19-inch with 4WD). The SUV comes with plenty of body cladding which elevates the ruggedness of the SUV. The rear door handles are placed on the C-pillar which look unconventional.
Its dimensions are similar to that of the Grand Vitara, as it measures 4,275 mm in length, 1800 mm in width, 1635 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2700 mm.
The rear gets sleek-looking LED tail lights, a shark fin antenna and a roof mounted spoiler.
The interior gets a completely new look for a Maruti Suzuki car. It comes with a dual-tone theme which looks premium and upmarket. The dashboard is dominated by the dual integrated screens for the infotainment system and digital driver’s display. Placed below the infotainment are the vertical AC vents which add a funky touch to the dashboard. The steering wheel gets a two-spoke design which adds a sporty touch to the premium cabin.
Apart from the dual screens for the touchscreen infotainment and driver’s display, the eVitara can be seen with an automatic climate control, an electronic parking brake with auto hold and a wireless phone charger. We expect Maruti to equip it with a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, a head-up display and 6 standard airbags.
While it is unclear exactly what powertrain of the eVitara will be heading to India, we do know that Suzuki has offered it with multiple powertrain options in Europe. Here is detailed look at its specifications:

We expect Maruti to launch both the battery packs in India, along with both drivetrain options. While the exact claimed ranges have not been revealed yet, the eVitara is expected to offer a claimed range of up to 600 km. The eVitara also gets independent eAxles which integrate the motor and the inverter.
The Maruti Suzuki eVitara is expected to be priced at around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) when launched in India. It will take on compact electric SUVs like the MG ZS EV, the Tata Curvv EV and even the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV.
