The upcoming Maserati GranTurismo Folgore gets a tri-motor electric powertrain delivering 1,200PS

Maserati’s road to renaissance is paving the way to an all-electric GranTurismo – a car that was the torchbearer of the Italian marque for more than a decade. Badged the GranTurismo Folgore, the all-electric coupe has been teased without any camouflage ahead of its launch next year.

The design is unmistakably Maserati. The elongated front end, sloping roofline and sleek and relatively short rear end characterise the design language of the coupe which also borrows cues from the MC20. The overall silhouette is reminiscent of the GranTurismo which goes to show the timeless design of the coupe it replaces.

While the interior is still under wraps, the teaser gives away the dual-tone interior of the four-seater Italian EV which makes use of carbon-fibre elements inside the cabin.

The GranTurismo Folgore will deploy three electric motors belting out a mind-boggling 1,200PS combined. Those power figures translate to a 0-100kmph sprint time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of over 320kmph.

Its battery will be compatible with ultra-fast charging, meaning around 100km of range can be added within five minutes of plugging in. The specifications of the battery unit and the driving range it offers have not been revealed yet.

It is speculated that the Italian trident will also offer the second-generation GranTurismo in a V6-powered version that will likely be the same 3-litre unit seen on the MC20. With Maserati’s vision of going full-electric by 2030, the GranTurismo Fulgore will be the first of many electric cars to be introduced in the marque’s lineup.
