Mercedes-Benz India has expanded its EV lineup with the launch of the EQS SUV 450 SUV, a 5-seater electric luxury SUV priced at Rs 1.28 crore (ex-showroom). Assembled locally, this latest entrant is essentially a 5-seater variant of the 3-row EQS SUV 580, but it doesn’t skimp on tech, luxury, or performance. Bookings are now open online at dealerships, with deliveries scheduled to start in February 2025.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 450 mirrors its 7-seater counterpart when it comes to design. Up front, you’ll find the signature blacked-out panel grille that seamlessly integrates into the bumper. A set of connected LED headlamps spans the car’s width, making it look futuristic.
At the rear, it gets full-width LED tail lamps, reminiscent of the luxurious Maybach EQS but with subtle tweaks to make it stand out. The SUV's overall design emphasizes elegance while maintaining its aerodynamic silhouette.
The three-pointed stars are known to be feature-loaded to the brim and the EQS SUV 450 is no different. Upfront, the Mercedes Hyperscreen setup takes centre stage, combining a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 17.7-inch infotainment display, and a 12.3-inch front passenger screen.
If you're buying an EQS SUV 450 SUV, chances are you'll be chauffeur-driven, and hence, the focus is on making the backseat experience perfect. The biggest change here is the seating arrangement. While the EQS SUV 580 has a three-row seating configuration, the EQS SUV 450 has only two rows, which makes it a comfortable 5-seater, suitable for a nuclear family.
Rear passengers are pampered with dual 11.6-inch entertainment screens, while soft-close doors, puddle lamps, and illuminated running boards add an extra layer of sophistication. A 15-speaker Burmester sound system, four-zone climate control, and nine airbags ensure top-notch comfort and safety.
Additionally, the EQS SUV 450 comes equipped with Level 2 ADAS features, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, to make your drives stress-free.
Under the hood, or rather the floor, the EQS SUV 450 packs the same 122 kWh battery pack as its bigger sibling, the EQS SUV 580. This is the largest battery in any passenger EV in India, offering an impressive 821 km of ARAI-claimed range on a full charge.
Power is delivered via a dual-motor AWD setup producing 360 PS of power and 800 Nm of torque, enabling brisk acceleration.
Charging is a breeze too, as the SUV supports 200 kW DC fast charging, which juices the battery from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 31 minutes.
For comparison, the EQS SUV 580 offers higher outputs of 544 PS and 858 Nm but slightly less range at 809 km.
At Rs 1.28 crore (ex-showroom), the EQS SUV 450 is priced competitively for a luxury EV. Its immediate rivals include the BMW iX, Audi Q8 e-tron, and the Jaguar I-Pace.
However, with the features on offer, a massive range, and the prestige of being locally assembled, the EQS SUV 450 stands out as a strong contender in the electric luxury SUV space.
