The performance-only Mercedes-AMG brand is set to showcase its electric supercar of the future in the form of the Vision AMG concept. It has been announced by Mercedes Design Chief Gorden Wagener on his Instagram along with a teaser sketch of the profile. The concept will debut on May 19.

While Mercedes-Benz already has the EQS53 and EQE53AMG with performance-oriented variants of other EQ models lined up, the Vision AMG previews the brand’s first performance EV. Based on the sketch, the new concept seems to take inspiration from the AMG One hypercar, the Vision EQXX. The cabin seems to be positioned in the middle of the design with pointy front and rear ends with pronounced wheel arches.

It has also been reported that the production-spec version of the Vision AMG is due to arrive in 2025. It is stated to be based on a dedicated platform, which should allow for a tailored driving experience, and not just speed. So one can expect razor-sharp handling as expected from such an AMG-derived EV.

Mercedes has already been working on performance-centric electric powertrains with the AMG variants of the EQS and EQE. The top-spec EQS53 AMG features a dual motor setup with a peak performance rating of 761PS and 1020Nm with Dynamic Plus package; and in boost mode, it is good enough to do the 0-100kmph sprint in just 3.4 seconds. The luxury sedan does have the burden of lugging around a 107.8kWh battery pack for sufficient range. The final version of the Vision AMG will likely find a more balanced combination of battery size and performance.

The Vision AMG could likely be positioned in hypercar territory to rival the likes of the Rimac Nevera and Lotus Evija. It would be the model that showcases the brand’s abilities in an electric future, and as such could offer ludicrous performance with electric motors for each wheel and a total output of around 2000PS.
